THE UNKNOWN

here a blog about a scary evening.

A few weekends ago, I had my first experience camping, and I’m not going to lie, I freaked out a little. Okay, maybe more than a little. But I think it was justified.

A small group of us went camping for a couple of days. Thankfully, only one night. We were really in the middle of nowhere. We had to do some serious off-roading to get to this remote location. We even had to break out the chain saw to cut through tree branches that fell on the road during a severe thunderstorm the night before.

As if everything wasn’t already set for the beginnings of a great horror movie, when we got to the campsite, it looked like we weren’t the only ones there. There was a beat up tarp used as a tent and there was garbage everywhere including open sardine cans in the fire pit. We actually…

The Barghest and Beasts of England’s Shores

Laura EK Kelly

Canines and their relatives have long had their place in the folklore of the world; from the classic werewolf to the tanuki of Japanese myth and Celtic mythology is no different. In this case, mythological beasts tend to run in the circles of the faerie or the far beyond as ghosts.

Faerie dogs haunt the crossroads where the barriers between our mortal world and the realms of the faerie are the thinnest and most fragile. They’re said to be bright green and guard their doors quite fiercely. They say that the faerie dog will bark only twice in warning to trespassers; if you hear the their third bark then you’re doomed to die.

The Church Grim was made famous in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban as an omen of death in the form of a giant black dog. The original myths of the Grim paint the creatures as…

Hocus Pocus!

helenchristoforou

Once upon a time there was a young boy with a young sister who was lured into a Trap made by three evil witches. The leader of the three was the oldest sister and the leader. You see, they wanted this book which contained an eye right in the middle. A spellbook that was important to them and I’m guessing it’s because it contained spells, mighty powerful ones. The boy’s younger sister was lured by one of the powerful spells and ended up dying alongside her older brother had been turned into a black cat trying to save her. Many years later everything starts to happen again. Dejavu much?

The movie is wonderful and well done. A great Halloween movie to have your kids watch! Funny, scary, entertaining! It’s a movie for children but I’m 21 and I still make time to see the movie every year near Halloween.

Do You Believe in Demons?

Snarlolgy Halloween Blog Hop Yellow 2

Do you believe in Demons?

Demons are defined as a source or agent of evil, harm, distress, or ruin. An attendant power or spirit. A supernatural being of Greek mythology, intermediate between gods and men.

Not exactly job resume material so what is our fascination with them?

Dressing up for Halloween or All Hallow Even (All Saint’s Eve) has its origins in the pre-Christian times, thought to be a Celtic custom. People believed that spirits and demons from the underworld and ghosts of dead people could become living beings on the night of All Hallow Even. These demons and spirits could not only harm them but could take them back to the underworld.

If these people had to leave the safety of their homes that night they would dress up as these beings hoping to confuse them and therefore would get to their destination safely.

Now on All Saint’s Eve we dress up as ghouls and goblins, dress our kids in their favorite super hero costume and go out gathering candy. I used to put Moose antlers on the door and take him door to door.

How did trying to save ourselves from demons become a candy grab?

We don’t love demons just at Halloween. We seem to love demons all year long. With TV shows like ‘The Walking Dead’ we watch the apococlipic survivors struggle against the undead. People make elaborate costumes, dress up and go on zombie walks. Does this happen because we believe in demons or is there another reason?

I’m not sure, but I tune in every week to watch the characters’ fight these undead demons.

Another show I love is ‘Dominion’. Do I believe in good and bad angels? Maybe.

Both of these TV show have strong female characters who face every hardship with a strength I’ll never have. Is that what appeals to us? Strong characters facing things we wouldn’t want to?

I’ve thought about that ever since I started writing and I don’t have a clear answer.

When I was a kid, sit on the couch with my sisters, biting my fingernails, my heart pumping watching the Alfred Hitchcock and the Twilight Zone shows.

Is our fascination nothing more than an instant adrenal rush?

Paranormal writers face these questions every time we sit down at the keyboard. Do we believe in them or are we trying to figure out what the attraction is to them?

Actually a part of me wants to believe in them. I want to believe that there are forces I’ll never understand. I want to believe that good will always triumph over evil and the world will right itself and everything will be fine.

I’m a romance writer. I want the humans to win against the zombies. I want the good angels to make sure humans win against the bad angels. I want to believe in the happily ever after story ending.

Tell me why you love Halloween so much. Tell me why if you believe in demons and why? The best answer will win a $25 Amazon gift card.

Put your answers in the comments section and I’ll choose the one I like best.

I can’t wait to read your answers.

Interview with Darlene Fredette

Today I have the pleasure of interviewing Darlene Fredette. Welcome.

Thanks for inviting me today.

Tell us a little about your new release, Law of Attraction published by The Wild Rose Press.

Lawyer Christina Crawford has a successful career and stable financial future, but is it enough?  Her world is disrupted when a routine divorce case means working with a man she never expected—or wanted—to see again.  During their first meeting, she can’t deny a connection still exists.  Her head warns her to run, but her heart yearns to stay.

Steven Mitchell is ruthless in the courtroom, but outside those doors, his easy charm, good looks, and unlimited stream of female companions gives him an unscrupulous reputation.  Six years ago, Christina saw beyond his façade, but the emotions she evoked scared him and he pushed her away.  Now he wants a second chance and he is determined to get her back…even if he has to play dirty.

Please tell us why you like to write sweet romance over erotica?

I’m a sweet romance writer at heart. Some stories may contain a little bit of spice, but my writing is truly heartwarming.

Do you have a favorite line or quote from your latest release? Why?

This is my favorite excerpt from Law of Attraction because it portrays my heroine’s feisty side.

Heart pounding in her chest, she closed the door behind him. Wearing her best business face, she returned to this disastrous meeting and sat. Christina drew in a deep breath, and a measure of control was restored. She picked up her pen and flipped open the case file. “So, according to these documents, your client is contesting the divorce?”

Steven reached across the table and snatched the pen from her hand. “What’s the rush, Christina? We haven’t seen each other in years. There’s a lot of catching up to do.”

She clenched her teeth together, barely parting her lips as she spoke. “We have nothing but this case to discuss.”

“Come on, don’t be like that.” He leaned back in his chair, frowning. “You’re not still holding a grudge, are you? What happened was so long ago. I hoped we could start fresh, as friends.”

“Are you freaking serious?” She glared an icy stare. Forget a slow death by high heel. She’d get more pleasure strangling him with her bare hands. “You accused me of misconduct, had me fired, and now you want to be friends?” Her heart thumped a rapid beat in her ears. “You’re out of your mind.”
