Annie’s Heart was the result of a dream I had about living on the Kansas plains after the Civil War ended. I researched the area and found the hardships settlers faced to be overwhelming. I was surprised so many not only survived, but thrived. Annie is a strong woman with too many problems, but she is a survivor.

I hope you take this opportunity to read about her.

Blurb:

Only two coins and a gold pendant heart separate widowed ANNIE MOSS from disaster. The fields need to be plowed, the barn repaired and food stored for the winter, but she is alone and afraid. Her dream of a home for her children hangs from the promise of a wandering man to keep moving on, a man she has no reason to trust.

TRACE RANDOLPH has lost everything except his honor, so when a desperate ANNIE saves his life he knows he must pay his debt, even if it means marrying her. The only promise he makes is to leave before the winter snows. A promise he finds impossible to keep.

Excerpt:

Trace wiped his forehead with the back of his hand and hefted another bundle of shingles https://barbaraedwardscomments.files.wordpress.com/2015/08/scan00011.jpg?w=198&h=300onto his shoulder. The sweat dripped off him and he knew he smelled like an old goat. He wondered if Annie had noticed, or if he were the only one suffering from this itch. His mouth was parched and he made a note to purchase more mints when he visited town. A blister burned on his heel. And work shoes. His high-heeled boots weren’t designed for doing farm chores.

He planned on taking a quick dip in the creek later to wash away his ripe odor. The scent of lavender, light and delicate as the woman herself, filled his head. Annie stood behind him. He turned. She smiled and held out a dripping glass of water. Nodding his thanks, he swallowed the drink with pleasure. He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand and her blue eyes flicked from his fingers to his mouth.

“When do you expect to be done?”

A longing to touch her seared him like a hot poker. Trace jerked his gaze from her mouth to eye the rising sun and gathering clouds. He gauged the daylight hours left.

“Maybe by tonight. It looks like rain, and I hope to have it completed so you won’t be inconvenienced again.”

Her fingers trembled slightly when she held out her hand for the empty glass. His gaze darted to her face. She blushed at his bold stare and stepped back.

“I’m sure I never implied–”

“No, you didn’t, but I have eyes in my head. You need your privacy. I intend to get Digger’s bunk ready as well as my own.”

She blushed a color reminiscent of the climbing roses in his mother’s garden. He realized she was embarrassed by his reference to sleeping arrangements. He was enchanted by her sweet reaction. A woman so innocent shouldn’t be the mother of two children.

Her gaze dropped to the ground as she hugged the glass to her breasts. The dripping condensation soaked into the fabric. She didn’t notice the wet material clinging to her soft outline, but he did. Heat pulsed low in his groin. He longed to trace the outline of dampness with his mouth.

“I need to go into town. Would you like to come?” Trace didn’t know where the suggestion sprang from, but Annie’s eyes sparkled with anticipation, then dimmed.

“But we have chores to…”

“Let Digger do them,” he interrupted.

She hesitated. Cackling laughter followed by a whoop of excitement broke the silence stretching between them. Annie gave him a shaky nod before heading back toward the house.

Trace cursed under his breath as he watched the sweet sway of her hips when she climbed the shallow steps to the porch. Annie was soft and curvy in all the right places. She cast him a quick glance before darting inside.

Interview M. Tasia from the BOYS OF BRIGHTON series.

Today I’m interviewing M. Tasia from the ‘Boys of Brighton’ series. The 2nd book in the series ‘Sam’s Soldiers’ is what we’ll be discussing today.

“So Sam, you’re from the little town in Brighton, Texas. What do you do for a living there?”sams-soldiers-final-cover-002

“I’m an ER nurse at Brighton General Hospital,” Sam brushed a stray red curl out of his face and continued. “I’ve always wanted to help others and nursing is on the front lines helping every patient that comes in.

“What is your favorite food?”

“Chicken Parmigiana with pasta, Caesar salad and garlic bread. Dante is a master at that dish.”

“What did you think of Dante and Spider when you first met them?”

“Actually, I thought they were both insane; drop dead gorgeous, but insane. They made me an offer I didn’t want to resist, so I didn’t.”

“Do you believe in love at first sight?”

“No, but lust, oh yah! Love comes later, once you discover who they really are, their quirks, likes and dislikes, things you love about them and the things that drive you nuts. You have to see to the core of that person or persons before you can actually say you love them.”

“Please describe both Dante and Spider with one word.”

“I can only think of one word for both, ‘Mine’.”

“Thanks for visiting with me today.”

BLURB:

As an emergency room nurse at Brighton General, Samuel Mason spends most of his days caring for the sick and injured, and his nights alone. Until now.

Jack “Spider” Forrester and Dante Snow have arrived. Retired from the Army, they provide protection to those in need. They’ve come to Brighton to guard Sam’s cousin from a dire threat, but it’s Sam’s world they turn inside out. Jack wears his heart on his sleeve but is no pushover, and Dante is scarred from a past he’d sooner forget. They two are partners in all things, from the bedroom to the office to the street, and they want Sam to join them…for as long as they’re in town. But there is danger ahead, and not just from the type of men these skilled, muscled heroes have sworn to take down. The danger of falling in love.

Immortal Winter, a stand-alone dystopian paranormal romance
by New York Times bestselling authors N.R. Larry and Margo Bond Collins

02055-amazon2b252812529

Excerpt:

I woke in my ice tower, covered in a coating of sweat, lying next to a dead body.

With a gasp, I scrambled back against the headboard of my own bed. Other than the motionless figure beside me, nothing around me had changed, though it was tinted yellow from the flickering lanterns.

Arina’s dead body?

I’d never seen a corpse. Not a real one. I eyed the spike sticking out of her forehead and the odd snarl twisting her open mouth. My head swam and I swallowed convulsively.

I knew I needed to act, but all I could manage to do was let Arina continue to bleed out—onto the sheets and onto me. I should have been screaming. I should have been throwing myself off the bed and toward the window. But I didn’t, anchored in place by fire and sweat and blood.

I tried to connect the scene in front of me to some memory, something that swam barely out of reach. I stretched after it, catching a fragment: yesterday was Arina’s day. The day I wouldn’t be alone.

A pain day.

I looked forward to those. That much I knew.

Forcing myself to sit up, I scooted away from her still form, my jaw clenched with the memory of pain. I would have laughed at what lingered but there was a body to attend to. Stumbling out of bed, I stepped out of my clothes and limped toward my ivory dresser. On the way, my feet grazed against something rough. Some imperfection in the ice. Something that wasn’t there before.

I backed up and stared down at the message scratched into the ice, blood swiped across it to highlight the letters, like ink rubbed on a seal impression to darken the image.

She found me. She knows. Went to warn them. Don’t take the infusions. Watch out for Kip.

My body began to tremble, even before my mind caught up.

Yesterday.

Featured Author Friday – Forbidden Colours by Nicole Fitton

Blog Post:

Forbidden Colours was the evolution of a question that had been rattling around in my brain. You know, those annoying questions that wake you at 4am and won’t let you rest forbidden-colours-by-nicole-fittonuntil you’ve written something. Well, that’s how it was for me. I had read a newspaper article about the complexity of the human brain and well, it all started from there. Forbidden Colours is a gripping love story which contains elements of psychological suspense. It contains enough adrenaline fuelled drama to power the national grid! Once I had the protagonist Midori Yates firmly fixed in my mind’s eye she took charge and dictated the direction of travel. I have a passion for science and being able to incorporate that into a book is very exciting. The story centres around a new drug being brought to market that does not quite do what it is supposed to…. I shall leave it at that. As I said earlier I started Forbidden Colours with a question and everything flowed from there. So, I know you want to know, what was the question? It’s a question I often ask myself but seldom has it led me in such an unusual direction…… ‘ What if?’

Blurb:

What if your memories were not your memories? What if the drug hailed as a cure became a curse and ultimately your destruction?

Midori Yates works for pharmaceutical giant KLD. The launch of new drug Centoria has revolutionised the treatment of amnesia, with outstanding results. Trials exploring its use in the treatment of Alzheimer’s are on the horizon. But is it really as good as the data suggests?

Neurologist Dr. Nick Campbell has seen amazing results with his patients and is ready to believe in Centoria’s transformational abilities…that is until his patients start displaying strange and worrying symptoms with drastic results. Determined to uncover the truth, Midori and Nick find a conspiracy that is to have devastating consequences for both of them. A dark world threatens to engulf them. Can they survive?

 Snippet:

Katzuko Yates eyed her daughter thoughtfully. A sense of apprehension gripped her. Those years in Japan were long ago; she wondered if she could be clear with her explanation. Even though buried, her memories continued to breathe under the mountain of life she’d lived. Dare she even speak of them? Could she speak of them? Their place of residence had become an unmarked grave in her history. Her family had a right to know, after everything that had happened. His world was dark and full of shadows; where would she begin? For over 25 years she had told no one. Now she was being drawn back into his world. It was a time she wanted to forget. The tie that had been bound to her so tightly was about to be broken.

Featured Author – Pamela Thibodeaux

Today I’m featuring author Pamela Thibodeaux.

Thanks for stopping buy today. Please tell us a little about how you came up with the idea for Keri’s Christmas Wish.

I am 100% panster so when I sat at the computer with one scene in mind, Keri scrollingkeris-christmas-pam through her newsfeed and grumbling “bah humbug” over the ‘Christmas in July’ propaganda, I had absolutely NO idea where the story was going or what would happen. I was introduced to Energy Medicine a couple of years ago and find the whole concept of healing the body – or actually the body healing itself by correcting energy imbalance–fascinating. Along with EM, I’ve discovered the power of positive thoughts and prayers (see: You can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay). Add to that, my belief in the afterlife and the books & movies affirming those beliefs, and well, this story practically wrote itself. What is so amazing and encouraging for me is that Keri’s Christmas Wish is the first romantic story I’ve written in its entirety since my husband passed away in 2009. Oh, I’ve had things published that were already in the works, but other than a couple NF pieces, it is the only thing written from start to finish. Hopefully this means I’m in a much better place emotionally and other books/novellas/stories are sure to follow.

For as long as she can remember, Keri Jackson has despised the hype and commercialism around Christmas so much she seldom enjoys the holiday. Will she get her wish and be free of the angst to truly enjoy Christmas this year?

A devout Christian at heart, Jeremy Hinton, a Psychotherapist, Life Coach, Spiritual Mentor and Energy Medicine Practitioner has studied all of the world’s religions and homeopathic healing modalities. But when a rare bacterial infection threatens the life of the woman he loves, will all of his faith and training be for naught?

Find out in Keri’s Christmas Wish

Snippet: She awoke in another dimension. Keri had no idea if she was in Heaven, but neither did she fear Hell. Her surroundings were reminiscent of a dense forest at dusk. Shadows danced against a sunset where brilliant colors bled from the sky. A light shone in the distance but as she moved toward it, Keri felt as though she plowed through molasses. Unease pricked her skin. The sound of water drew her deeper into the woods until she stood at the base of a vast waterfall and rapids so swift she dared not attempt to cross the river.

The light grew stronger, brighter. Beckoning.

I need to get to the light.

Highway Cafe Christmas Blog Tour

2016christmastour

On December 5, 6, 7…
The elves are on the loose at the North Pole!
We’re spreading the Christmas spirit with recipes, crafts, stories, and lots of giveaways!

Hi everyone. I’m Taleisin Elafir, one of Santa’s elves.

I work at the North Pole and I have the most important job for Santa. I taking care of the reindeer, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blixen and of course the king himself, Rudolph.

I make sure they play fairly while playing reindeer games. We don’t want a repeat of— well you know. The flying reindeer have such fragile egos.

While I’m working, I love to listen to Lady Antebellum, ‘Baby it’s Cold Outside.’ All the reindeer love this music too, well except Rudolph. He like the old Christmas songs sung by Frank Sinatra, so I mix them up to keep everyone happy.

I’ll be giving away a pair of beautiful hand-crafted earrings to my Secret Santa Krafty Kelly. Her job at the North Pole is wrapping presents in a creative, decorative way. But beware, because you might find tricky surprises in that wrapping…I love being crafty in a devious way, too and will be  giving away a pair of hand-crafted earrings to  one lucky person who leave a comment on this page!

I eat Christmas cookies and drink eggnog, as I feed the reindeer carrots.  Here is the recipe that Mrs. Clause makes especially for me.

Coconut Macaroons with Chocolate

Yield: 3 to 4 dozen

Prep Time: 10 min

Cook Time: 10 min

Ingredients:

6 cups sweetened shredded coconut flakes
1 (14-oz.) can sweetened condensed milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 Tablespoon vegetable oil

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 350ºF.

In a large bowl, stir together the coconut flakes, sweetened condensed milk and vanilla until well combined.

Use a small spoon to scoop out roughly 3 Tablespoons of the mixture to form small mounds, spaced about 2 inches apart on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet.

Joys of the Season

I am a history buff. I’m lucky enough to have a pioneer village just a few miles from me. For two weekend in December they celebrate Christmas in the Village. At each of the buildings, they have a different traditional Christmas celebration for the 1850 – 1880’s.

At one house, they have a traditional German Christmas Eve. They depict Christmas eve with a fir tree, called Tannenbaum which is usually put up and decorated with real candles, glass balls or straw ornaments and sweets. A star or an angel tops the tree and beneath the tree, a nativity scene might be set up and the homemade presents next to it.

The aroma of baking fills the house, including gingerbread hearts, sugar-roasted almonds, cookies, and stollen.

At the English house, they depict Christmas day, with the homemade presents under the Christmas tree. There are no candles on this tree. On the table were dishes of Christmas pudding with brandy sauce, mulled wine and mincemeat pies.

They also did a demonstration of how to make your own Christmas crackers, which are paper rolled into tubes with small toys or puzzles in them. To start the meal, you would break these open.

At the Scottish house, they depicted New Years, or Hogmanay.  The tradition is you return everything you have borrowed, you sweep the bad luck out the door just before midnight, then form a circle and sing ‘Auld Lang Syne’.

To ensure good luck for the house, the ‘first foot’ over the door should be male, dark haired and should bring gifts such coal, shortbread, salt, black bun and whisky.

They served shortbread cookies and mead, or mulled wine.

I love celebrating Christmas with such wonderful traditions and we go as a family every year.

We are giving away prizes to two randomly selected winners: 1) an ebook bundle, including books in various genres by various authors participating in the hop (see the list of books at the bottom of this page); or 2) a $50 Amazon gift card.
