Featured author Anna Lores

Today I have the pleasure of featuring author Anna Lores and her book Ella’s Triple Pleasure. The first chapter of this book is in Passionate Cravings, an erotic book sampler.Passionate Cravings

Are you in control of your characters or do they control you?

Control is a big challenge for me… Who gets the power in the story? I like to think I control my characters by placing them in situations they may or may not like, but they seem to control their thoughts and emotions.

What drew you to the characters in this story?

I thought about writing a reverse harem story after a miserable week of kids being sick and my husband being out of town. I remember the night I started penning Ella’s Triple Pleasure. I had gotten the kids to bed (in my bed) and went to the couch to wind down. I thought, wouldn’t it be nice to have three men to help take care of the kids so I could take a break. I turned my emotional struggle into Ella’s financial one. The men drew me in because each one was different and could handle different aspects of everyday life…and rocked it between the sheets. I was hooked on these characters and their unconditional love for each other.

What is your favorite punctuation mark and why?

My favorite punctuation mark…hmmm…uh…well…I’d have to think about that one… 😉

Tell us about Ella’s Triple Pleasure.

It takes three men to satisfy one woman’s needs…

Single mom and massage therapist Ella Winthrop isn’t looking for a relationship. She has Ella's Triple Pleasureenough problems without risking a business that barely meets her needs. Then her world is turned upside down by three men, each offering something she isn’t prepared for—love so deep it hurts, sex so hot she’s afraid she’ll melt from the pleasure, and a future beyond her wildest dreams.

Steamy businessman Cade Jackson has it all—money, looks, a giving heart, and a dominant nature—but Ella refuses to date a client even if she’s lusted after him for a year. After his brother’s death, Garrett Winthrop moves back to town opening old wounds and even darker fantasies. Dr. Derek McGregor gives her balance and understanding that speaks to her soul. All three men force Ella to question the limits of a traditional relationship.

Excerpt:

“So, is it too soon to ask for a foot massage?” Cade sported a slight curve at the corners of his mouth. “You know how much I like my feet rubbed.”

She laughed and turned to face him. He did it again. He made an uncomfortable situation comfortable and pushed away her doubts. “Cade Jackson, you’re a liar. You hate your feet rubbed. You squirm like a worm while I’m working on them.” She playfully squeezed his large muscular bicep. Yum.

He raised his hands in surrender as she let go. His shirt lifted and showed off bodybuilder abs worth drooling over. “I didn’t think you noticed. You’d rub my feet for ten agonizing minutes every Tuesday. Were you trying to torture me?”

She branched out from her normal course of action and tried a move at seduction. Her first. Ever. She leaned toward him and whispered, “I’ve been waiting for you to tell me you didn’t like it.”

“But I do like it.” He placed his hands on the edge of the table. Hiwrinkled the linen tablecloth. “It hurts, but it feels so good afterward.” He lifted a lock of her hair near her cheek and tucked it behind her ear. “Let’s go back to the main house and eat dessert.”

He traced the side of her neck with his fingers down to her collarbone. A soft wave of shivers rippled over her flesh. The proximity of his smoking-hot body and lips pushed her into lust hyper-drive. All he’d have to do was kiss her earlobe, and she’d have an orgasm.

“Do you want to wrap up the leftovers and bring them with us?”

“The fridge is stocked at the main house.” He glided his hand over her shoulder and down her arm to her hand. “Ready?”

He curled his fingers around her hand and tugged her up.

She nodded, standing on unsteady legs.

“Um, sure?” Am I ready for dessert with Cade?

She swallowed.

She could do the food kind but hoped he meant a naughtier kind of ending to their meal.

Featured Author Michal Scott

Today I’m featuring Michal Scott who’s first chapter of  Better To Marry Than To Burn is included in PASSIONATE CRAVINGS, An Erotic Romance Book Sampler.Passionate Cravings

Michal would you answer a few questions for us?

Are you in control of your characters or do they control you?

I’m a plotter on steroids and so am totally in control of my characters.

What drew you to the characters in this story?

My favorite literary pairing is Beatrice and Benedict from Much Ado About Nothing. So I was drawn to the idea of what if B&B were African-Americans in Reconstruction America, he an ex-slave and she a freeborn Northener.

What is your favorite punctuation mark and why?

The colon. I love receiving permission to keep on talking and the colon does exactly that. :  )

Could you tell us a little about your book?

Freed Man seeking woman to partner in marriage for at least two years in the black township of Douglass, Texas. Must be willing and able to help establish a legacy. Marital relations as necessary. Love neither required nor sought.

Caesar King’s ad for a mail-order bride is an answer to Queen Esther Payne’s prayer. Her BetterToMarryThanToBurn_w12232_300family expects her to adhere to society’s traditional conventions of submissive wife and mother, but Queen refuses. She is not the weaker sex and will not allow herself to be used, abused or turned into a baby-making machine under the sanctity of matrimony. Grateful that love is neither required nor sought, she accepts the ex-slave’s offer and heads West for marriage on her terms. Her education and breeding will see to that. However, once she meets Caesar, his unexpected allure and intriguing wit makes it hard to keep love at bay. How can she hope to remain her own woman when victory may be synonymous with surrender?

Would you share an excerpt?

She pulled the wagon to a stop. “Care to take over?”

She held the reins before him. He nodded. She handed over the reins, crossed her arms and stared at him. “Tell me more about Emma.”

He shrugged. That kind of detail hadn’t been part of the bargain, but…

“Not much to tell. She used to teach us slaves in secret, then openly when Union forces secured our town. I was her star pupil. We married and came West for a fresh start. She died giving birth to twin boys soon after we arrived. They followed her within a few hours.”

A soft light shone at him from her eyes. “Sorry for your loss.”

“None needed. Good comes from bad. Death, not slavery, took my boys from me. They never had to live as someone’s property.” He sat a little straighter. “Our children will never have to worry about that.”

“Our children?” She swiveled in her seat. “You made no mention of wanting children, just marital relations as necessary. I understood that to mean intercourse.”

“I wrote I wanted to leave a legacy.”

“A legacy. Not a dynasty.”

“Legacy. Dynasty. Is there really so sharp a distinction?”

“To my mind there is. I understood you meant to affect future generations—endow schools, found churches, create civic associations. I didn’t realize that meant children. I agreed to having sex, not having children.”

“Of course I want children.” His brows grew heavy as he frowned. “Doesn’t having sex lead to having children?”

“Not with the right precautions.”

His frown deepened. “Precautions?”

“There are many ways to prevent your seed from taking root, Mr. King.”

“I want children, Mrs. King.”

Her lips twisted and her brow furrowed, but she kept her silence.

“All right,” she said. “You can have children with any woman you like. I won’t stop you. I free you from any claim to fidelity.”

“Legacy—or dynasty if you will—means legitimacy. No bastard will carry my name, not when I have a wife to bear me children.”

“I see.”

Interview with Author Desiree Holt

Today I’m featuring Desiree Holt and her book FINDING REDEMPTION. The first Passionate Cravingschapter is featured in PASSIONATE CRAVINGS, an Erotic Book Sampler.

Are you in control of your characters or do they control you?

I like to think I control them but that’s not the truth. Sigh! As I write they get in my head and tell me what to do. Fortunately it usually turns out pretty good!

What drew you to the characters in this story?

Ethan Caine is based on a real life person, a friend of my sons. People talked about Bill all the time, his strange lifestyle, his quirks, his so-called undercover work. The more I saw him, the more I heard about him , the more I knew I had to make him the hero in a book. **Side note: his friends who read the book said I nailed his character.

What is your favorite punctuation mark and why?

The exclamation point. I think because I always want to emphasize things!

Tell us about FINDING REDEMPTION.

Lisa Mallory’s marriage from hell ended with her husband’s unsolved murder. Four years later, her eight-year-old son, Jamie, is kidnapped. When every other avenue of finding him fails, she turns to her brother’s best friend. He’s not the man she’d have chosen, but to get her son back, she’ll suffer anything…even the desire he stirs that she’d thought long dead.

Ethan Caine, former Marine/special ops agent, is dealing with his own private hell. All he wants is to be left alone with a bottle of whiskey to drown the guilt of surviving a mission gone wrong. When he finally agrees to go after Jamie, he certainly doesn’t want the boy’s mother slowing him down. Besides, she makes him ache to have her naked and beneath him. Worse, she stirs dreams of the future…something he doesn’t deserve.

Passion explodes between Ethan and Lisa in the exotic Quintana Roo jungle, even as the past and present threaten to steal it all.

Excerpt:

Of course it was raining. How fitting that the weather should be miserable.

Lisa Taylor Mallory shifted on the folding chair provided by the cemetery, careful not to perf5.000x8.000.inddmove out from under the umbrella held by the funeral home attendant. Next to her, four-year-old Jamie snuggled closer to her, needing the assurance of his mother’s warmth.

Under his own umbrella, Pastor Howard Devol of Mangrove Baptist Church intoned passages from the Bible. He had already eulogized Charles Mallory to the point of sainthood. Lisa clenched her fists and swallowed the nausea that insisted on rising at the back of her throat as she listened to the words.

If you only knew. Just let this be over. Please, please, let us get this over with.

She let her gaze travel over the crowd of mourners. The abundance of black umbrellas nearly formed a canopy over the assemblage. Tampa society’s A List as well as the giants of the financial world were gathered in their best funeral attire to mourn a man whose sins had been swept away in fire at the foot of a mountain.

“Keeping up the myth,” Josh Taylor had told his sister.

This is for Jamie.

He was so frightened by the circus surrounding the death of his father. Lisa wanted him to have closure on what had become an outrageous situation. Despite the devil’s trap her marriage had become, Charles Mallory had always been good to his son. So much so that Lisa had lived in constant fear Charles would one day disappear with him and leave her behind.

Sitting on her other side, Josh squeezed her arm, a signal that this farce would soon be over and everything would be okay. Not exactly the word she’d have chosen to describe the current state of her life. She clenched one gloved hand in her lap. No, okay wasn’t even in the ball park.

At last, the interminable ceremony ended. Josh rose and nudged her to stand with Jamie. The pastor signaled her to come forward. With her brother’s arm supporting her, she stepped over to the casket and took the white rose the pastor held out. She stared at the casket for a long moment, then dropped the rose on its mahogany surface.

In a voice so low only her brother heard it, she said, “Rot in hell, you son of a bitch.”

Featured Author Anne Hague

Today I’m featuring Anne Hague and her story Angel’s Collar which is featured in Passionate Cravings, and erotic sampler book.Passionate Cravings

Welcome Anne. I’m so happy to have you today. Tell us about your book.

Angel’s Collar

Book One of the Love Strictly Tested series

I have it all…until he shows me more.

I didn’t intentionally spill wine all over the most beautiful guy in the room, and one look at those icy-blue eyes brings on a major lapse in coherent speech. Jordan Caldera tells me his secret and wants me to join him. This is where my journey into submission begins.

So much about BDSM freaks me out, but at the same time, I can’t help but be intrigued. When I imagine Jordan doing those things to me, I can’t resist the adventure. Mind-blowing sex aside, my life is changing at an alarming rate and getting very complicated. Between balancing my career and my best friend’s concerns, the secrets I’m keeping are killing me.

What am I willing to risk for the new lifestyle I’ve embraced…and the man I love?

Excerpt:

“Oh my gosh,” I squealed. My hand barely coveredperf5.000x8.000.indd

the gaping hole my mouth formed. “I am so sorry.” The

massive red wine stain all over the front of a pure white

shirt on a rock hard chest glared like a traffic light. As

my gaze traveled up and up, his face, in addition to

being a visual perfection, appeared rather amused.

Well, at least that’s what I deducted, while devouring

those ice blue eyes which complemented the thick rich

brown hair which was a little too long for a guy in a

fancy suit. Chocolate lava cake at its best. All I wanted

to do was to swirl whipped cream all over this sinful

dessert of a man.

“Here, let me get some club soda and towels.” I

wanted to make a quick retreat to find a way to repair

the damage to his shirt as well as my embarrassment.

“No. Don’t worry. It’s all right.” He regarded the

stain and then me. “You could have just introduced

yourself instead of ruining my shirt.”

“Well. I do like to make an impression.” His

genuine smile made me relax and too warm all over.

“Really, though, let me pay for the cleaning.”

“It’s just a shirt.” He crossed his arms over his

chest. “I’m still waiting.”

“Forrrr?” I was confused, befuddled, and

hopelessly embarrassed.

“An introduction.”

Wow. He was serious about knowing who I was.

“I’m Emma Samuelson.” I couldn’t decide whether to

extend my hand, kneel at his expensive Italian shoes, or

just bat my eyes to flirt.

I’m a terrible flirt, and by terrible I mean, I do it

often, but not all that well, and kneeling would draw

attention. So, I extended my sweaty hand.

Author Interview with Nancy Fraser

Today I am so excited to feature Nancy Fraser. I’m a big fan of her books. Thanks for stopping by.

My first questions is are you in control of your characters or do they control you?

LOL … those sneaky little buggers take me all over the place before finally settling down into a smooth rhythm. However, in the end, I am the boss (snicker) and they do what they’re told.

What drew you to the characters in this story?

Scottish culture amuses me. From the bagpipes and fiddles, to the Highland games/dancing, to the strange food. Yes, I’ve eaten Haggis. I didn’t enjoy it, but I ate it to please my late father-in-law. I wanted to create a more modern version of the Scottish culture and take it out of Scotland and drop it into a New England location that still celebrates the best of their heritage.

And now my favorite question. What is your favorite punctuation mark and why?

Much to my editor’s chagrin, the ellipses. Without a doubt, the ability…unhampered by convention…to stop my thoughts mid process is always a winner!!

Your book Kilty Pleasures is featured in Passionate Cravings, An Erotic Sampler. Could you share a bit about your story.

Why yes.

When Ronan MacAlister returns to Glencoe, Maine to see to the affairs of his late uncle, Passionate Cravingshe’s immediately reminded of why he’s stayed away. The small town is definitely not his cup of tea, and he can’t wait to settle the estate and be done with the cold winters. The only bright spot is the feisty farm manager, Aileen. All grown up now and far from the shy and reserved girl from his childhood, she exudes a steamy sexuality that has Ronan and his unruly body on full alert.

Aileen MacDougall had a huge crush on Ronan when she was a teenager, content to adore him from afar whenever his family came to Glencoe for a visit. Now he’s back, and although the circumstances are less than ideal, she’s eager to find out if her fantasies can live up to reality. But he holds the key to the future of Glencoe in his hands as well as her own hopes and dreams.

Can being trapped together in a remote cabin during a freak snowstorm melt his heart?

Could you share an excerpt from Kilty Pleasures?

Ronan pushed the last letter into place atop the triple word square. “Reticent. Tacking on to your word and utilizing the ‘e’, that’ll be another eighty-six points for me.”perf5.000x8.000.indd

“Nice play. Too bad you’re still forty points behind.”

He shot her a glare, followed by what he hoped was his most lascivious grin. “You know what would make this more interesting?”

“Let me guess, Strip Scrabble.”

“I was going to say Nude Scrabble, but I’m willing to work for it.”

“I bet you are. Why don’t we put the game away and go to bed? It is after midnight.”

He gathered his remaining game pieces and dumped them into the storage pouch. “I’ll go light a few candles, maybe take a quick shower.”

She nodded and then stood, gathering up the game board and box in her hands. “When you come out of the shower you should put the kilt back on.”

“Hmm…kinky. I like it. What will you be wearing?”

“A smile.”

Interview with Cadence Vonn

Today I have the pleasure of interviewing Cadence Vonn. Thanks for stopping by today.

My First question is are you in control of your characters or do they control you?

My characters talk to me. I might be driving the car, but they’re my GPS.

What drew you to the characters in this story?

I love old movies where the heroine is incognito. So I created Tess. She has a mixture of my grandmother’s spunk and my Italian heritage. With Max, nothing is sexier than a stoic man who turns out to be sex as Hell.

And now for my favorite question. What is your favorite punctuation mark and why? The exclamation point! My characters get excited and are vocal when they’re focused on pleasure. It adds that necessary punch at the end.

You’re book, Play A Game With Me, is featured in Passionate Cravings, an eroticPassionate Cravings sampler. Tell us a little about it.

Determined to lure Max out to play, every encounter becomes a game of enticement. But his commitment to his family business and his mother’s determination to marry him off makes it impossible to take the relationship public, and Tess refuses to be his guilty little secret

Choices become consequences, their future is on the line, and Max and Tess are running out of time.

Could you share an excerpt from Play A Game With Me?

I’d love to.

Tess opened the door on the first knock.

Max stood transfixed. His fingers fisted together and he scanned her body before he said, perf5.000x8.000.indd“May I come in?”

She stepped out of the way, sweeping her arm in a welcoming gesture.

“What brings you here, Maximilian?”

“I found myself outside hoping the need to see you would pass. I wanted to convince myself that last night was a fluke, but just now when I saw you standing here all thought of not being with you flew out the window. Damn, I want you.” He pulled her into his arms. His hands gripped her bottom, crushing her against him as he claimed her mouth in a hard kiss.

Tess buried her fingers in the waves of hair near the nape of his neck. She held his head so she could deepen the kiss he’d already started. His breath tasted of scotch, and she wondered how many glasses he drank trying to forget her.

Featured Author Friday – Forbidden Colours by Nicole Fitton

Blog Post:

Forbidden Colours was the evolution of a question that had been rattling around in my brain. You know, those annoying questions that wake you at 4am and won’t let you rest forbidden-colours-by-nicole-fittonuntil you’ve written something. Well, that’s how it was for me. I had read a newspaper article about the complexity of the human brain and well, it all started from there. Forbidden Colours is a gripping love story which contains elements of psychological suspense. It contains enough adrenaline fuelled drama to power the national grid! Once I had the protagonist Midori Yates firmly fixed in my mind’s eye she took charge and dictated the direction of travel. I have a passion for science and being able to incorporate that into a book is very exciting. The story centres around a new drug being brought to market that does not quite do what it is supposed to…. I shall leave it at that. As I said earlier I started Forbidden Colours with a question and everything flowed from there. So, I know you want to know, what was the question? It’s a question I often ask myself but seldom has it led me in such an unusual direction…… ‘ What if?’

Blurb:

What if your memories were not your memories? What if the drug hailed as a cure became a curse and ultimately your destruction?

Midori Yates works for pharmaceutical giant KLD. The launch of new drug Centoria has revolutionised the treatment of amnesia, with outstanding results. Trials exploring its use in the treatment of Alzheimer’s are on the horizon. But is it really as good as the data suggests?

Neurologist Dr. Nick Campbell has seen amazing results with his patients and is ready to believe in Centoria’s transformational abilities…that is until his patients start displaying strange and worrying symptoms with drastic results. Determined to uncover the truth, Midori and Nick find a conspiracy that is to have devastating consequences for both of them. A dark world threatens to engulf them. Can they survive?

 Snippet:

Katzuko Yates eyed her daughter thoughtfully. A sense of apprehension gripped her. Those years in Japan were long ago; she wondered if she could be clear with her explanation. Even though buried, her memories continued to breathe under the mountain of life she’d lived. Dare she even speak of them? Could she speak of them? Their place of residence had become an unmarked grave in her history. Her family had a right to know, after everything that had happened. His world was dark and full of shadows; where would she begin? For over 25 years she had told no one. Now she was being drawn back into his world. It was a time she wanted to forget. The tie that had been bound to her so tightly was about to be broken.

I am 100% panster so when I sat at the computer with one scene in mind, Keri scrollingkeris-christmas-pam through her newsfeed and grumbling “bah humbug” over the ‘Christmas in July’ propaganda, I had absolutely NO idea where the story was going or what would happen. I was introduced to Energy Medicine a couple of years ago and find the whole concept of healing the body – or actually the body healing itself by correcting energy imbalance–fascinating. Along with EM, I’ve discovered the power of positive thoughts and prayers (see: You can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay). Add to that, my belief in the afterlife and the books & movies affirming those beliefs, and well, this story practically wrote itself. What is so amazing and encouraging for me is that Keri’s Christmas Wish is the first romantic story I’ve written in its entirety since my husband passed away in 2009. Oh, I’ve had things published that were already in the works, but other than a couple NF pieces, it is the only thing written from start to finish. Hopefully this means I’m in a much better place emotionally and other books/novellas/stories are sure to follow.

Blurb:

For as long as she can remember, Keri Jackson has despised the hype and commercialism around Christmas so much she seldom enjoys the holiday. Will she get her wish and be free of the angst to truly enjoy Christmas this year?

A devout Christian at heart, Jeremy Hinton, a Psychotherapist, Life Coach, Spiritual Mentor and Energy Medicine Practitioner has studied all of the world’s religions and homeopathic healing modalities. But when a rare bacterial infection threatens the life of the woman he loves, will all of his faith and training be for naught?

Find out in Keri’s Christmas Wish

Snippet: She awoke in another dimension. Keri had no idea if she was in Heaven, but neither did she fear Hell. Her surroundings were reminiscent of a dense forest at dusk. Shadows danced against a sunset where brilliant colors bled from the sky. A light shone in the distance but as she moved toward it, Keri felt as though she plowed through molasses. Unease pricked her skin. The sound of water drew her deeper into the woods until she stood at the base of a vast waterfall and rapids so swift she dared not attempt to cross the river.

The light grew stronger, brighter. Beckoning.

I need to get to the light.

Author Bio: Award-winning author, Pamela S. Thibodeaux is the Co-Founder and a pamlifetime member of Bayou Writers Group in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Author interview – Tena

Welcome to my blog today Tena. Tell us a little about yourself.

I grew up a lonely only child in a single parent home.  My imaginary friends were my most prized possessions, if you can call them possessions. LOL.  I vowed to marry a man with lots of siblings (always thought it would be great to have lots of brothers and sisters), alas, as it turns out my husband and the love of my life too is an only child. To take that one step further, my best friend in the world is also an only child (she married a man with six siblings). But at least we all understand each other and believe me being an only child is not anywhere near as wonderful as portrayed.

When and why did you begin writing?  AWitchsJourney_w10497_med (2)

I began writing as soon as I could read and write.  Fun little stories and stories for my friend’s birthdays, etc.  It was a way to express my over active imagination without getting into trouble. Then life intervened and writing took a back seat for many years.  I was down sized from my job of fourteen years and decided with my hubby’s support the time was now. I had a few unfinished and finished manuscripts. Took them out, dusted them off, edited and polished them and sent one off.  Right time, right place and The Wild Rose Press contracted my first book.  Now, I have four contracted books and am living the dream.  LOL  Which sometimes turns into a nightmare when the characters don’t cooperate, a deadline looms and life careens out of control.  Ever have that happen? Over all I love being a writer.  Making things up for a living, it doesn’t get much better than that. LOL

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

Maybe, never thought about it.  Wild life conservation is a topic near and dear to my heart, so I guess that came out in this book. Also a theme runs through all of my book, “Remember the magic to happily ever after.”

What authors have most influenced you?

Why?  Nora Roberts because she can spin a great tale. I like her paranormal tales more than her contemporary romances, and I truly enjoyed The Witness, a bit different for Nora.  More recently Molly Harper, I love her humor, paranormal creatures and entertaining prose. I laugh out loud at her books. Which leads to people looking at me like I’ve lost my mind.  Well okay, that’s not the only reason people look at me like that.

What are you reading now?

Nancy Atherton’s, Aunt Dimity  and The Buried Treasure; and The second in Nora Roberts  Guardians Trilogy, Bay of Sighs. And I’m always reading books from my fellow authors at The Wild Rose Press.

Q: Tell us about your new release. A Witch’s Journey is a story of redemption.  Pepper McKay is outed as a witch in Salem, Mass when she uses magic to save the wildlife sanctuary where she works. Then she inherits the McKay family enchanted property, meets a former Navy SEAL who maintains the property and together they build a wildlife rescue and rehab center. Along the way they each learn to overcome their demons.  But someone is trying to steal the McKay magic.

A Witch’s Journey – Blurb

Pepper McKay comes from a long line of powerful witches. Unfortunately, magic brings her nothing but trouble. She learned the love of wildlife rescue and rehab from her Aunt Ashling. After graduating from college, Pepper works for Salem Wildlife Sanctuary and lives from paycheck to paycheck until she inherits the McKay property in Lobster Cove. With the family land and resources, she dares to dream of starting her own wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center.

Lathen Quartz, a former Navy SEAL turned handyman maintains the enchanted McKay property for the McKay estate. But someone is trying to steal the McKay magic. Lathen offers to help Pepper achieve her life-long dream of building a wildlife center. During the long hours spent together on the project, their mutual attraction can’t be denied. But each harbors a deep, dark secret. Will they overcome their demons and give love a chance?

Excerpt:

Pepper hopped out of the truck and took a deep breath. The ocean breeze brought a mixed scent of brine, sand, sun and kelp. Seabirds whistled and screeched through the air diving into the white crested waves, proudly emerging with dinner. Turning her attention to the land, she noticed beyond the barn, the pond was still there, even a bit bigger than she remembered. Caught up in the smells, sights, and sounds, she didn’t hear someone approach.

“Ms. McKay?”

“Sssshit,” she yelped and whirled around to see a muscular man, well over six feet, with surfer blond hair nearly to his shoulders, tousled by the ocean breeze. Rounding the corner of the cabin, he waved at her as he approached walking with a slight limp. Deeply tanned, he appeared to spend a lot of time outdoors.

“I’m Lathen Quartz. Glad you made it before dark. The road up here can be treacherous after dark if you don’t know where you’re going.  I finished up the enclosed aviary and was getting ready to leave. But now that you’re here, I’d be happy to show you around. Help you get settled.”

“Pepper McKay, call me Pepper.” Extending her hand towards him, she met his gaze. His large aquamarine eyes were mesmerizing, set above the high cheekbones, full lips and a butterscotch five o’clock shadow. She gave her head a shake. “Wait. You built an aviary?”

He shook her hand and smiled, shoving his hands in the pockets of his jeans and rocking back on his heels.

Tena Stetler is a paranormal romance and cozy mystery author with an over-active imagination.  She wrote her first vampire romance as a tween, to the chagrin of her mother and the delight of her friends. With the Rocky Mountains outside her window, Tena sits at her computer surrounded by a wide array of paranormal creatures telling her their tales. Colorado is her home; shared with her husband of many moons, a brilliant Chow Chow, a spoiled parrot and a forty-year-old box turtle.  Any winter evening, you can find her curled up in front of a crackling fire with a good book, a mug of hot chocolate and a big bowl of popcorn.  During the summer you can find her cozied up around a campfire with a good book.

Interview with Ember Leigh

Welcome Ember. Tell us a little about yourself.

I’m Ember Leigh, erotic romance author, aspiring mermaid, and perpetual vagabond. I’m  in Ohio at the moment with my husband; we’ve spent the last few years living in South America, but I needed some good quality time with my family and friends up here. We’re always dreaming of new places to visit and sometimes live. Wanderlust is a serious affliction! I think all the places we visit seeps into my writing. It’s constant inspiration.

When and why did you begin writing?

I was around age 8 or 9 when I knew, down to my bones and back, that I was meant to be a writer. I read voraciously as a girl, and somewhere between being fascinated by outer space and all those books I read, I knew that author was my only destination in life. My first stories were tapped out on an old Commodore 64 my parents had. I wrote my first “novel” by age 9, based on a dream I had about visiting the moon.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

Probably tons of messages, some I’m not even aware of! What I like most about “A New York Minute” is that Paige and Josh try to be the masters of their own universes—and they are, to some extent. But they just couldn’t control that one wild card, finding true love. And that’s one of my favorite messages: despite our best laid plans and goal-setting and determination, there’s always going to be something you never planned on stepping in your way. And though it might look like your worst nightmare (like Paige losing her dream job), there’s always a silver lining.  And the end result might be better than your wildest dreams!

What authors have most influenced you? Why?

My first, most indelible influence was Douglas Adams. Beyond him, there’s also Michel Faber, Stephen King, and Jennifer Crusie.

What are you reading now?

I’m just wrapping up “Zen in the Art of Writing” by Ray Bradbury, with plans to start “The Silvers” by J.A. Rock and “Death’s Redemption” by Ishabelle Torry next!

What is your favorite punctuation mark and why?

The em-dash, HANDS DOWN! I am a self-proclaimed addict to the em-dash—there’s no better, more solid line in the history of punctuation.

Tell us about your new release. a-new-york-minute

Paige Alexander, successful host of A New York Minute, adores her job and will do anything to save the show that’s her brainchild. But when IBC, fronted by Josh Lambert, buys NYCBC, Paige’s show is cancelled, and her choices are unemployment or a non-starring role on a new show co-hosted by Jerk Lambert, a man who makes her hotter than hell in every way.

Having scaled the golden rungs of the corporate ladder, Josh doesn’t do relationships or complicated. Promised a multimillion dollar payday if he turns Wakin’ Up—the show that replaced Paige’s—into a hit, Josh kisses uncomplicated goodbye when she shows up. The woman fascinates and terrifies in equal measure, and he’s suddenly questioning the value of gold versus the value of her. Forced together in an Hawaiian paradise, the steam just keeps rising—on set, in the sauna, and in the narrowing distance between them.
